What is Bunded Drum Storage?

Even a minor leak can cause serious harm, and that is why there is detailed guidance in place to help you get your bunded storage setup right.
Containment
When it comes to bunded storage, one of the most important things that you need to think about is capacity. You should always ensure that the following guidelines are being met:
- The bund must be able to hold at least 110% of the volume of the largest container stored within it.
- If multiple containers are stored in the same bund, it must hold 25% of the total combined volume, or 110% of the largest container – whichever is greater.
Why these specific amounts? Well, in the event of a leak, there will be ample space to contain any spillage without any overflow.
The Construction of the Storage
Bunded storage needs to be constructed from materials that are:
- Impermeable so leaks can be prevented.
- Chemically resistant to the specific substances being stored.
- Durable enough to stand up to long-term use.

Bunds should have no drains, taps, or outlets, which ensures that leaks cannot escape the containment system.
