VDMA 24994, by contrast, tests the safeโs ability to contain a fire from within. In certification trials, a battery cell is deliberately forced into thermal runaway inside the safe. To pass, the safe must:
- Prevent flames, sparks and molten material from escaping.
- Maintain safe external temperatures.
- Stay sealed and structurally intact under pressure.
